King Arthur Pendragon is a pen and paper roleplaying game originally created by Greg Stafford. Originally titled Pendragon Chivalric Roleplaying in Arthur’s Britain, or simply Pendragon for short, the first edition was published as a boxed set by Chaosium in 1985. Since then, it has seen three major revisions and dozens of supplements by numerous authors and publishers. In addition, both Pendragon and Greg Stafford have received numerous awards, including entry into the GAMA Hall of Fame.
Greg Stafford designed Pendragon to enable players to immerse themselves in the original tales of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. It infused both morality and emotion into the game via its groundbreaking personality traits and passions system, capturing classical Arthurian literature’s feel and tone. It also created a by-year play scale based partly on historical Britain and the literary life and times of King Arthur as evidenced through various authors and literary works dating back to Chrétien de Troyes. Since it drew much inspiration from Le Morte d’Arthur, of Sir Thomas Malory’s time in the Middle Ages, it used the feudal system and both contemporary weapons and armor. Moreover, it eschewed the standard experience point system for that of Glory in keeping with the theme and tone of many Arthurian works.
To date, there have been four major editions supported by Chaosium, Green Knight Publishing, White Wolf via its Arthaus imprint, and Nocturnal Media. If you prefer, you may review the official product list.
