14E8 Results and a BMET Retirement

Congratulations to SMSgt(s) Bonnie Janus at Scott AFB and SMSgt(s) Curtis Miller at Joint Base Langley-Eustis! Best of luck to both as they take on greater leadership roles, both in the Air Force and the BMET career field. With a 20-year low in the Air Force SMSgt promotion rate, the BMET promotion cutoff reached an historic level. These two definitely stood out amongst the 40 eligibles! In retirement news, CMSgt Armando Oakes, a senior member of the BMET career field, retired effective 1 April 2014 from Dyess AFB, TX where he served as the group superintendent. Thanks for 30 years service to both the Air Force and BMET community, and best of luck to you and your family in the next chapter of your life.

13E9 Results

Congratulations to CMSgt(s) Margaret Cooper and CMSgt(s) Quyen Ngo! They were selected during the 13E9 cycle; all well deserved! CMSgt(s) Cooper is the first female BMET ever promoted to the rank of Chief, proving (a) there is no glass ceiling and (b) success as a BMET is not limited to any demographic. Our 4A2 community is fortunate to have these two outstanding individuals counted among our leaders!

Taking a Moment…

One of the most important duties any Service member will ever perform is that of Liaison Officer at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Germany.  Each and every day of the year, regardless of time, a handful of Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, and Airmen stand watch.  Their mission:  do whatever it takes to care for the wounded and their families.  From December 2010 to June 2011, I had the distinct privilege to serve with SMSgt Chris Griffith as Air Force Liaison Officers, providing support for so many. Too many. Serving with such outstanding people as MSG Ron Jefferson, SFC Jared Muse, SFC Jeff Briscoe, SFC Matoka Horton, SSG Janille King, Jennifer Campbell, and so many others from every Service (uniformed and civilian), we tirelessly worked to provide whatever comfort, however small, to ensure those who returned to us in need, as well as their families, received what they needed when they needed it. From December 2010 to June 2011, some 237 American Service members made the ultimate sacrifice.  Many passed through Landstuhl Regional Medical Center prior to their last breath; some with hopes of recovery, while others with hopes of simply surviving long enough to allow family to say goodbye in person.  I remember the faces, battered and bruised, the broken bodies; some most certainly unrecognizable, forever robbed of… something.  And I remember the families; grief stricken, overwhelmed, shocked, numb, and ultimately resilient; such remarkable strength and courage in the face of insurmountable odds in the wake of war. All too often, what both the fallen and their families needed was simply a shoulder to cry on, a hug, a kind word, a silent moment, a distraction, a respectful acknowledgment of their sacrifice, and in the darkest of [...]

13E7 BMET Promotion List

The 13E7 promotion list was released yesterday.  This year proved incredibly tough, as AF BMETs promoted the lowest percentage, as well as the lowest raw number of people, since at least 1998 (the earliset I have BMET promotion data). This was not unexpected, especially given relatively lower SMSgt and CMSgt promotion rates, as well as a continual (albeit slow, incremental) reduction in AF end strength.  That said, here's our newest selectees: As you can see, several great and well-deserving BMETs.  For those who didn't make it, don't give up.  Your time will come!

How Ya Like Me Now?!

... I've changed the theme of the website, cleaned up some pages, streamlined flow, and paved the way for more content.  Definitely a work in progress, with more updates to follow.  On the horizon: Finish cleanup Update historical promotion information Expand RPG section Expand sports section Add professional development section Add BMET management tools section It's a lot, and will take quite a while, but I'm motivated to expand the site.  Wish me luck!

Promotion Stats Updates

Thanks to Archive.org, I was able to track enlisted promotion statistics on AFPC's old public site back to 1997. After MANY hours researching and compiling data, I updated all BMET promotion statistics back to 1997 for SMSgt and CMSgt, and 1998 for all others.

Site Updates

I've been researching BMET promotion history as far back as I can find. Using Archive.org I was able to get promotion statistics from AFPC going back to 1997. There are some holes, including most of 1997 and all of 2005. I can't find those statistics anywhere! Something tells me this is as good as it gets unless (a) someone out there has the data or (b) I can work with AFPC to get the historical data (maybe via a Freedom of Information Act request). Beyond that, I want to analyze how promotion board scores have evolved over the years, especially with respect to how BMETs compare with other AFSCs in the AFMS. In the meantime, take a look at the updated 4A2 Promotion History.

13E8 Results

We have three new SMSgt promotees in the BMET world: SMSgt(s) Joe Berberich (Macdill AFB, FL) SMSgt(S) Rick Russo (Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, HI) SMSgt(S) Alan Weary (Joint Base San Antoino-Lackland, TX) Having known and worked with all three, I can tell you they are very well deserving and destined for great things... Congratulations to all!
